Medical waste dumped at Kadavanthra

A large amount of medical waste was found dumped on the K P Vallon road in Kadavanthra on Sunday.

According to the Corporation Health inspectors, syringes and plastic materials, possibly from a medical lab or a hospital, constituted much of the waste.

“Even though we were initially suspicious about a veterinary hospital nearby, we ruled it out when we found the name of patients and doctors written on the waste materials. We have started an inquiry to find out the hospital that dumped the waste,” an inspector said. He added that strict action would be taken against the culprits.

“As per the rules laid down by the Corporation, the license of the hospital   responsible for the act will be cancelled. A heavy fine will also be imposed,” the officials said.

The Mayor has also been notified on the issue. The Thevara police have registered a case in this regard.

The issue was brought to light by two residents of Kadavanthra, Steve Joseph and Rejin Joy.
