Energy audit at Chendamangalam panchayat today

In its efforts to become the first solar grama panchayat, a one-day energy audit and survey would be conducted at  Chendamangalam to assess the energy needs of the panchayat on Saturday.

Kerala State Electricity Board chairman K Sivasankar will inaugurate the programme at 8.30 am at the Paliyam Government Higher Secondary School.

Nearly 2,600 volunteers comprising students of four high schools and Kudumbashree workers would survey the 9,644 structures in the panchayat.

All public structures, including temples, churches, offices and residential buildings would be covered under the survey, said V D Satheesan, programme coordinator.

Energy requirements, including the duration of use of each electrical equipment, will be recorded. All are requested to cooperate with the survey by giving accurate details such as house number, ward number, power consumption, address, pin code, cell phone number and power bills for scrutiny.

The nature of consumption and the part of roof where sunlight is available for long hours would be taken note of.

The survey is being supported by IIT, Mumbai, Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology and the KSEB.
