Murder accused held

The Ernakulam rural police arrested Robin, an accused in the murder of a  95-year-old woman of Vengoor village, Ernakulam. The body of the deceased was found by a neighbour on January 7.

According to police, Robin had visited the neighbour on the night of the homicide. He was later seen by the witnesses near the house of the deceased. The homicide is reported to have taken place by 8 pm. The victim was found without her regular gold ornaments. The police said that Robin suffocated Mariyamma in an attempt to steal her gold chain and earrings.

Later, the gold chain was found at a money trading centre at Perumbavoor and the gold earrings were recovered from a private bus stand. Ernakulam Rural District Police SP Satheesh Binoy and Perumbavoor DYSP Harikrishnan led the arrest.
