Freight station to be opened Saturday

The Cochin International Freight Station, an initiative of the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited (KSIE), will be inaugurated on Saturday.

Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty will inaugurate the CFS at a function which will be presided over by PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju. Fisheries, Port and Excise Minister K Babu will also be present. Situated in Kalamassery, the container freight station (CFS), set up at a cost of `25 crore, can handle 1,000 containers. Its customs bonded cargo handling centre is spread across an area of 80,000 sq ft.

“The CFS will directly provide employment to around 100 persons, while another 500 people will get the benefits indirectly. KSIE’s cargo complexes in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram have registered an increase by 50 per cent in turnover and profit this year, stated KSIE chairman Mayin Haji in a press release.
