The LDF on Monday took out a march to the Corporation office demanding the resignation of Mayor and two standing committee chairpersons in connection with the alleged corruption charges.
The march, which began from Menaka Junction, was blocked by the police in front of the Corporation office.
The Opposition councillors and leaders of LDF took part in the march demanding the resignation of Mayor Tony Chammany and town planning committee chairman K J Sohan in connection with the alleged lamp post scam.
Meanwhile, they have also raised corruption charges against works standing committee chairperson Soumini Jain on giving permit for digging up roads without consulting with the standing committee.
However, the Mayor who denied the charges said that the Corporation Council had already recommended a Vigilance inquiry into the lamp post scam. He said the works standing committee chairperson had allotted the works only after consulting with the Council. According to him, the Opposition’s move is politically motivated.
