CII Kerala chapter to make state business friendly

In an attempt to set the cards straight for a business friendly environment in Kerala, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Kerala Chapter has put forth a cluster of projects in its 2013-14 agenda.

The agenda offers arranging global consultancy for five companies in Kerala, selected from the CII membership, with a view to increase business productivity, “in spite of the environment” in Kerala. In the area of competitiveness, CII would lay special emphasis on development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Towards this, CII proposes establishing a ‘Centre of Excellence on Competitiveness, Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ in Kochi along with the government of Kerala.

“The agenda focus on the theme ‘Growth through productivity’ for the year 2013-14”, said C J George, Chairman, CII Kerala State at a press conference in Kochi today. He said that the agenda would address four spheres of operation - infrastructure inadequacy, bridging the skill gap, developing competitiveness and ensuring inclusive growth.

Other major initiatives include promoting wider national highways and inland waterways, green and efficient buildings, alternate energy, ayurveda and other forms of trade medicines. CII would also provide mentoring services to family businesses.

“Family businesses form the backbone of Kerala’s economy, the move is to enhance it to the next level of growth”, said George.

The Kerala chapter of ‘Indian Women Network’, a national program in association with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), mooted for the enhancement of entrepreneurship, technical and domestic development of career women will be launched this year.

CII will also organise a ‘Social Responsibility Compendium of Kerala’, which will showcase the best practices followed in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Major events to be held this year include Kerala family Business Conclave, Kerala Finance Conclave, India IT Summit, India MSME Summit, Kerala Health Tourism and Brand Summit.
