HC stays arrest of Naval officers

The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the police not to arrest till June 24, the two Naval officials who filed a petition seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) registered on a complaint by Lt Ravi Kiran Kabdaula’s wife. The FIR filed by the Harbour Police, raises serious allegations against the officials, including charges of sexual harassment.

Justice P Bhavadasan issued the directive while considering the petitions filed by Commodore Anand Balakrishnan and Lt Ajay Jayakrishnan challenging the investigation against them.

According to the petitioners, further proceedings based on the FIR will amount to gross violation of the process of the court and a misuse of the law machinery. There was no reference at all to any part played by the petitioners. Based on several complaints, a Board of Inquiry has commenced at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi.
