Raising the chances for setting up of the first railside warehouse in the state, Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas will visit the proposed site for the facility at FACT Kochi division on Monday.

Other officials to accompany the minister include Central Railside Warehouse Company Ltd managing director Vinod Hasthana, FACT managing director Jaiveer Srivasthava and Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affair and Public Distribution joint secretary (Storage) Naveen Prakash.

The proposed railside warehouse is expected to help in meeting the requirements due to the increasing flow of freights to railway terminals.

It will provide warehousing services at a cheaper cost and its proximity to the railway line will make transportation cost effective and hassle-free.

The authorities are also planning to renovate a godown at FACT. Along with that, a new godown will also be constructed.
