Give nod to teachers' postings: HC

Coming down heavily on Director of Higher Secondary Education Keshavendra Kumar for not complying with an earlier court order, the High Court on Thursday issued him strict instructions to grant approval for teachers’ appointments by Monday.

Failing which, the court would withhold his salary, it said. The court criticised Keshavendra and Maya, Regional Deputy Director, when a contempt petition filed by five higher secondary teachers from Palakkad came up for hearing. Keshavendra had appeared before the court on Thursday.

The contempt petition was moved by Aneesh, teacher at KPRP Higher Secondary School in Palakkad, and four other teachers.

The petitioners submitted that they were appointed to the post of the teachers in June, 2012. But, the government had not approved the posts.

When the petitioner moved the High Court, the government was directed to approve the appointment.

However, the government failed to comply with the court order, hence a contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against the officials, they said.
