BJP, ABVP take out protests against government

The BJP and its student leg ABVP took out two separate protest marches in the city on Friday. While the parent party led a dharna in front of the BSNL office against price rise and corruption and courted arrest, its student wing took out a march against privatisation of education.BJP national secretary P K Krishnadas inaugurated BJP’s dharna and spoke on issues related to alleged corruption in the state and Central Government. The dharna was followed by the state and district leaders including state vice president Shyamala S Prakash and district general secretary of BJP M M Madhu courting arrest.

The traffic was blocked near the boat jetty for almost three hours owing to the two dharnas. Both bus drivers and commuters complained of the heavy traffic blocks as the stretch is one of the busiest in the city. In a curious turn of events, a ABVP activist also faced the heat of traffic congestion as he fainted and had to be carried to a nearby hospital amidst the traffic snarl.
