Two cops suspended following irregularities in investigation of a case

A Circle Inspector and a Sub Inspector were suspended following irregularities in the investigation of a case in which a Bangladeshi woman was sold to several people.

According to police officials, the suspension was issued to CI Jayakrishnan and SI Ananthakrishnan following allegations that the investigation into the case was not being conducted properly. The probe was handed over to DySP, Narcotics Cell.

However, sources in the Police Department said that the two officers were suspended due to political pressure as Jayakrishnan had arrested a person who was close to several politicians.

One of the accused persons received bail from the High Court even before the police carried out the identification parade of the accused. There were 18 accused in the case, including former Kerala cricket team physio Dileep Singh. The victim was sent back to Bangladesh as her visa expired this month.

“We have launched an inquiry against both the officers. The suspension is temporary and action would be taken only after completing the inquiry,” said Sathish Bino, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural.
