In a major attempt to reach out to the needy, Hibi Eden MLA has come up with a novel initiative of medical aid in the district.. ‘Soukhyam 2013,’ a super-speciality medical camp where patients can have free diagnosis and treatment, will be organised at Rajendra Maidan in the city on May 19.

 The mega medical camp being organised in association with more than 16 city hospitals, will have close to 300 medicos, 50 technicians and 400 nurses. A team of doctors, led by Kochi Cooperative Medical College Medical Director Dr Junaid Rahman, will attend the patients and suggest follow-up treatment for them.

 The camp will be on from 8 am to 1 pm. It will be inaugurated by Union Minister K C Venugopal at 9 am.

“Kudumbasree workers have already started pre-registration of patients from various parts of the district. They have been asked to touch various colonies and rural areas including Cheranalloor, Vaduthala and Elamakkara. In addition there will be spot registration at the camp,” said Hibi Eden MLA.

A couple of organisations, including Cochin Shipyard and BPCL Kochi Refinery, have come forward to support the initiative as part of their CSR activities. Consumerfed has agreed to provide medicines for the camp, Hibi Eden said adding that Indian Medical Association Kerala chapter and National Rural  Health Mission  have been supporting the mission.

Special care has been taken to ensure follow-up treatment for those coming to the camp, said Dr Junaid Rahman. “A full-fledged laboratory will be set up at the camp. In addition if there’s need for CT or MRI scan, it can done at the General Hospital. Also in case of chronic illnesses, follow-up treatment, including surgeries, can be done either at the General Hospital or at a private hospital.

 The patient will not have to worry about the expenses for the same,” Dr Junaid said.

The camp will have speciality wings on general medicine, cardiology, nephrology, cancer, ophthalmology, pediatrics, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, urology, uro surgery, dermatology, general surgery, gynaecology, neurology, ENT, orthopediatrics and psychiatry.

 In addition to Kochi Cooperative Medical College and Ernakulam General Hospital, a number of city hospitals including Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Lakeshore Hospital, Ernakulam Medical Centre, Lissie Hopsital, PVS Memorial, Lourde’s Hospital, Lakshmi Hospital, Specialist Hospital, Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, Renai Medicity, Kims hospital, Sunrise Hospital, Vasan Eye Care and Dr Tony’s Eye Hospital will join hands with the initiative.
