A light take on life

‘Shaeey’, a short film by Nevin Fradian is a comical take on the life of a quintessential engineering student. It is the story of most engineering students who end up in one of the many colleges across the state or outside due to the familial pressures without an aim or interest for the subject or life.

With over 7 lakh views in YouTube this shortfilm is becoming a rage in the state. ‘Shaeey’ is 24-year-old Nevin’s third venture.

The protagonist has three goals in his life cricket, chess and finding the girl of his dreams. Like most engineering students, his life is also an aimless journey and the constant nagging of his folks add to his woes.

He is too lazy to go for the first two goals as they require hard work and determination. Finally it takes his favourite sports person’s winning speech to ignite that spark in him.  Eventually, he decides that finding the girl of his dreams could be the answer to all his problems. Also, because it seemed comparatively easier and something he could possibly achieve.

As the story progresses, the hero realises that even achieving the easiest looking goals requires hard work. Through many adventures and mishaps the hero finally achieves his dreams and manages to secure a job. Asked about the choice of theme for the short film, Nevin says, “I wanted to do a subject which the youth of today could relate to. Yet I didn’t want it to be boring. I felt bringing a comical element would help in gaining a wider audience.”

Nevin who has assisted in some ad-films and the feature film ‘Starring Pournami’ says, “It is after I made all three short films that I went and did a film course. I felt it was necessary to learn the technical know-how of things.” Nevin who wrote and directed the film received the complete financial support for the film from his friends and colleagues at Technopark. About future projects Nevin says he has started working on an independent feature film for which the casting work is going on.
