92.7 BIG FM announced the launch of the Cera Big Malayalam Music Awards 2013 (BMMA 2013). The event will feature the rich and diverse heritage of the Malayalam music industry and honour singers and musicians across various categories who crafted the year’s popular songs.

The programme which was inaugurated by actor Remya Nambeeshan is also one of the nominee in the award category. “I am lucky that audience has equally welcomed me both as an actor and a singer. Being a nominee for the awards is also a rare honour that one could get,” says Remya Nambeeshan. Remya who has crooned the promo song for the upcoming film ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ has her brother Rahul Subramanyan debuting as a music director for the film. 

“It is for the first time that awards exclusively for music is given in Malayalam music industry,” says Parvathy Nair, programme head. The music awards for the first edition will have twenty nomination categories which will include standard categories such as Best Singer (Male), Best Singer (Female), Best Music Director, Best Lyricist, Best Duet Song, Best Melody song of the Year, Best Singer among Actors and Best Melody Album Song. There are separate categories for debutant performers as well.

Four to five nominations in each category will be shortlisted by an expert panel. The awards will be on popular choice. The shortlisted names will be laid open to the audience to vote by way of sms, online and on ground voting procedures. The voting drive would start from the first week of November.

The finale is scheduled at Thiruvananthapuram on November 24 which will see the stalwarts of the music industry performing on the event.

Doyens of the industry will also be honoured during the function. “K S Chithra and M G Sreekumar who are completing 30 years in the music industry will also be felicitated,” says Parvathy. The event is sponsored by Cera and United India Insurance.

Vijay Babu, Kavitha Nair, Aparna Nair, Sandra Thomas, music directors Bijibal, Dev Anand, and several other members of Malayalam film industry were also present during the launch function. BIG FM has instituted music awards across various other languages like Marathi, and Punjabi.
