Kochiites can listen to the magic of  Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan once again. The Khan of Ragas will be perform at the Fine Arts Hall here on Friday evening. He is in the city as part of the official inauguration of the weekly cultural fest jointly organised by Ernakulam District Administration, District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. The programme will begin by 6.30 pm.

The entry to the programme will be restricted through passes that are available at the Collector’s camp office, DTPC office and the office near the Durbar Hall Ground stage.  The organisers said that Kochiites will get a golden opportunity to be with the maestro who popularises the Sarod through his experimentations.

Masum Ali Khan, who later become popular as Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, was born as the youngest son of Hafiz Ali Khan who was the chief musician of Gwalior Palace. Amjad Ali Khan learnt music from his father right from his childhood.

He started his musical career in 1963. From 2000 onwards, his children Ayan Ali Khan and Aman Ali Khan too joined him in the musical performances.  The district administration officials also stated that the weekend film festival will not be held due to Khan’s visit.
