The Kerala High Court has on Friday issued notices to the state government on a plea seeking a directive to the Thalikkulam panchayat to collect entertainment tax from Snehatheeram Park, a popular beach destination in Thrissur.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A M Shaffique issued the notices while considering a plea filed by M K Basheer of Thalikkulam. The petitioner argued that the park, developed in 2007, is a popular domestic tourist destination.
So far, Rs 64 lakh has been collected by the DTPC and Destination Management Council. But the Thalikkulam panchayat has not started collecting entertainment tax till date.
