World Diabetes Day observed at AIMS

Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs K V Thomas inaugurated the World Diabetes Day observance organised at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) the other day. Inaugurating the programme, the minister said as per statistics, diabetes cases are increasing at a fast pace in the state.

“It can be controlled only by changing the lifestyle of people and creating awareness in this regard,” he said. Public Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju released the book ‘Diabetic Foot Treatment and Protection’ written by Dr Usha Menon, Dr Ajith Varma and Dr Arun.

Filmmaker Major Ravi, who the chief guest at the function, said diabetes could be controlled by dieting and physical exercise. Endocrinology department head Dr Harish Kumar, Amrita School of Medicine principal Prathapan Nair, senior medical administrator Dr S K Ramachandran Nair, neurology department head Anand Kumar and Dr R V Jayakumar spoke on the occasion. Various cultural programmes were also held as part of diabetes awareness.
