ROB, the need of the hour

The Pachalam ROB proposed on Goshree-Mamangalam Road is intended to link the western part of the city without touching the congested business centres. The grievance voiced by the petitioners is that despite heavy traffic congestion in the area due to the Railway gate, the authorities have not cared to construct an ROB across the Railway line. Pachalam junction is also the point of access to prime spots such as Lourdes Hospital, Chinmaya Vidyalaya School, Vaduthala Church, Chittoor Temple and Anglo Indian School, to name a few.

An ROB at Pachalam would ease the traffic congestion on the main roads passing through Palarivattom and Kaloor, Banerjee Road and MG Road. With the reconstruction of Ernakulam North Bridge going on, the traffic is being diverted through Pachalam. Now, the traffic through Pachalam has increased manifold resulting in total chaos during peak hours. The authorities should have constructed the ROB before venturing to reconstruct the Ernakulam North Bridge.
