Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, was accredited with the British    Council International School Award for the period 2013-16.

The International    School Award is an accreditation scheme of the British Council that   recognises and celebrates an international dimension in the learning  experience of the students through a programme of activities that aim to educate students about different cultures and countries.

Within the school, the international projects undertaken involved activities  such as ‘Project-Go Green’ which focused on the need to create awareness  amongst students about the importance of nature conservation, while ‘Performing Arts’ explore the similarities and differences in the Japanese art form ‘Noh’, ‘the Shakespearean theatre’ and ‘Koodiyattam’. The project ‘World Government’ enhanced the students’ knowledge of the significance and functioning of the political institutions of various countries, the laws and rules which govern a society, and also focused attention on the need of the hour - international peace among nations of the

world.

“The ISA Activities undertaken by our school gave the students and the teachers a unique opportunity to explore, discover and thus widen their comprehension on various matters on a global scale. It has helped the students to become aware of various socio-economic-cultural issues, sensitised them to grave and pressing matters, enhanced their ability to savour life and recognise the  underlying unity among things in life. It’s been a truly meaningful and fulfilling endeavour,” said Jaya Jacob, principal of the school.

Jaya Jacob was presented the award by Rob Lynes, director, British Council, India at Kolkota. In a ceremony held on the school premises, Minister for State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor presented the award to principal, Jaya Jacob.
