Stay on single bench order extended

The Kerala High Court on Monday extended to November 28, the stay on the single judge’s order quashing the First Information Report (FIR) against Leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan in a land allotment case.

A Division Bench comprising Justice K M Joseph and Justice A Hariprasad issued the order when an appeal filed by the state government challenging the single judge’s order came up for hearing. The court also extended the stay on filing the chargesheet in the case. The Government Pleader sought adjournment as the Advocate General who is appearing in the case was on leave.

The case pertains to the alleged violation of norms while allotting 2.33 acres of land to T K Soman, an ex-serviceman and Achuthanandan’s close relative, in Kasargod district when he was Chief Minister during the LDF regime in 2006-11. A singe judge, quashing the order, had held that the imputations in the FIR against Achuthanandan did not make out any offence.
