Congress can come back to power riding milestone legislation: Sibal

The UPA Government at the Centre has set a policy platform with its three milestone initiatives - RTI, RTE and Food Security Bill. Now if the leaders work together Congress can come back to power once again, said Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal. Lashing out at the Left parties for collaborating with the BJP, Sibal said the Left has lost the confidence of the people.

He was speaking after launching UPA’s national food security campaign at the special convention organised by Ernakulam DCC in Kochi on Tuesday. Terming it as a historic moment, Kapil Sibal said a dream was fulfilled through the Food Security Bill.

The veteran leader said the Right To Information (RTI) Act was the first milestone which ensured transparency and accountability in public offices. The Right To Education (RTE) ensured free and compulsory education for all children, he said. The Right To Education was a dream which remained a dream for about 60 years, he pointed out.

The Food Security Bill, the third milestone by the Congress-led UPA converted a welfare measure into a people’s right. When the bill is implemented about 62 million food grains would be needed to cater to the entire population, he said adding that the state governments will have to identify the consumers who should be protected under the Food Security Bill.

He also pointed at the need to plug the leakage in Public Distribution System (PDS). Currently discussions are on with the state governments regarding expenses for transporting of food grains.

The Land Acquisition Bill would be the next milestone of the UPA Government, Saibal said. Stating that the Food Security Bill has given a boost to the rural economy, Kapil Sibal pointed out that it increased the responsibility on the farming community to produce more.  Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution K V Thomas spoke on Food Security Bill

Left parties

Kapil Sibal pointed out that Left parties are collaborating with BJP and hence they lost the confidence of the people. “How will they expect the people in Kerala to accept this? The Left has already lost the two states in which they were in power.

Next elections also they are going to be defeated in West Bengal.
