KOCHI: Regret throwing away your old frocks? Never thought those would be back with a bang, right? Mothers do agree that they never thought their daughters would go in search of frocks even after their teenage years.
There was a time when frocks were considered ideal only for kids and teenagers. But that was at least 10 years ago! The attitude towards frocks has gone in for a huge makeover. Frocks have once again become the in-thing amongst not just youngsters, but even young mothers as well. This monsoon, the fashionistas of the state are seen stacking their wardrobes with frocks.
Fancy frocks, designer frocks and heavily worked party wear-type frocks are available in plenty in the city. The widely used materials are cotton, linen, georgette and chiffon, with simple works, which is the current trend.
“My current favourite is undoubtedly frock. My friends too prefer wearing frock. I think it is cool and comfortable,” says Adithya Girish, a college student.
However, during monsoon, most of them seem to prefer georgette and chiffon since they get dried up easily. When it comes to the length of frocks, the ones that move quickly in shops are mostly that fall below the knee, with a three-fourth length.
If you thought age is a barrier to go with the trends, you have got yourself wrong! “Mothers who come to shop with their daughters also choose frocks now. They even exchange their frocks with daughters,” says Sandhya, a sales girl at Fusion 18, a clothing store.
Be it a party, college, marriage, or any occasion, frocks give you that simple and elegant look, defying age.
How to wear it !
See to it that the frock that you wear is simple. Simple make-up will give you a more elegant look. If you are going for an ankle-length sleeveless frock with heaps of frills, it will look cute if you team it up with a scarf and peep toes. You can either go for a simple bracelet or a watch or chunky bangles.
For those who like it out of the box, why not try sneakers with frocks? Secure yourself with short tights just in case you have a Marilyn Monroe moment in the breeze!
How not to wear it !
Do not take out the charm of the frock by wearing leggings under your frock. These are not kurtis. In case you are not comfortable with revealing your bare legs, why not go for skin-coloured stalking? If you are not comfortable wearing a sleeveless frock, it would be best if you go for a frock with sleeves. Do not try to get away with a shrug to cover your bare arms.
