MVD to Rope in Techies to Monitor Violation

Have you ever received a memo from Motor Vehicle Department for a traffic violation made four months ago? Or have you ever escaped the authorities’ eye after committing a traffic violation?

KAKKANAD: Have you ever received a memo from Motor Vehicle Department for a traffic violation made four months ago? Or have you ever escaped the authorities’ eye after committing a traffic violation? The monitoring  procedures will be changed soon. The Automated Enforcement Force of MVD at Civil station is all set to appoint 10 new techies to monitor all sorts of violation.

After the 10 staff are appointed on a contract basis, the MVD can hasten it memo-issuing procedures related to traffic violation. It can also speed up detection of traffic violation detect on the surveillance camera, installed at various points between Cherthala and Mannuthy.

“The appointments will be made purely under contract-basis for six months and it will be renewed every six months. For this, we are looking for some techie students who have a sound knowledge in computer and other technical aspects,” said N K Raveendranath RTO, Enforcement, Ernakulam.

At present the Department is making use of the service of six staff for monitoring violation, issuing memos, printing, dispatching and other related work. But with the rise in the number of traffic violations detected through the surveillance camera is proving to be tough to handle. They are able to send only memos against about 1,000 traffic violations per day. “Staff crunch is a major problem for the department but by the move to hire 10 techies will help send more than 3000 memos. We are in the final stage of discussing the pay structure which is likely to be fixed somewhere around `450 to `500 per day,” he said.

The Department will also upgrade eight more computers and the same number of printers for the new techies. “The new staff will be a boost for the Department as it will help shorten the lag in sending memos to the traffic violators. We are also in talk with the Transport Commissioner to introduce night shift at the control room,” he said.

In the meanwhile, the installation of surveillance cameras along the Mannuthy- Manjeswaram stretch is in the final stage and the number of violations is likely to rise after its completion. Hiring of new staff will help strengthen the Department, said an official.
