KOCHI: The Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara, which has produced several stalwarts, is all set to celebrate the Golden Jubilee on July 1.
Governor Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the celebrations. The governor will also inaugurate the Golden Jubilee Block, and lay foundation stone for the Post-Graduate and Research Block on the campus. On the occasion, K V Thomas MP will inaugurate the college outreach programme, ‘Meals on Wheels’.
College manager Varghese Kalapparambath said that the college would be celebrating 50 years of exemplary service in the higher education sector, with year-long celebrations and programmes, comprising academic and developmental activities.
The college was established in 1965 by the late Joseph Cardinal Parecattil, with a vision to make it a centre of excellence in higher education. It started as a junior college, with five pre-degree batches. Now, the college has 15 under-graduate programmes, six PGprogrammes and three research centres. The Bharata Mata College, which is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University; and owned by the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly.
