Free Knowledge Fest Begins at Cusat

KOCHI: The Free Knowledge Fest organised by the Democratic Alliance for Knowledge Freedom began on the Cusat campus on Friday. The fest will be held across various venues in the campus throughout the day until September 28. Seminars and workshops are also being held as part of the fest.

Students from other colleges under Cusat were present at the seminars and workshops held at the auditoriums of different departments and the Students’ Amenity Centre.

The different workshops organised are Wikimedia, Moodle, Malayalam Computing, Octave/Scilab, Blender, Open Computing, Mobile Computing, Alternative Social Network, Sharada Braille Writer, R Language, Swathanthra DTP and Open Street Map.

Seminars  are  being held on the topics Technology Assimilation in Indian Telecom, Governing Internet,  ERP for PSUs, Swathanthra Library Tools, Strengthening and extending IT @School, Open drug Discovery, Swathanthra ERP Case Studies, Knowledge Freedom: A Dialectical Perspective, IPR Policy in India, Swathanthra Software for Working Class Organisation, Protecting Traditional Knowledge and Social Relevance of Software and Knowledge Freedom.

Special photographs and descriptions of various events and places across the world are also exhibited at the Students’ Amenity Center along with software exhibitions.An open forum on Free Software, Free Knowledge, Free Society was also held.

The fest, organised in association with Cusat Students Union, is being held as a part of DAKF state conference.
