Gandhian organisations have come out  against the move to demolish the entire Gandhi Bhavan structure at Kacheripady for the Kochi metro rail project.

According to Justice P K Shamsudeen, only  2.5 cents out of the 7 cents of land need to be acquired for metro rail work in the spot.

“The District Collector and the Transport Minister had given us word that the entire structure wouldn’t be demolished. But, later some consensus has been reached to take over the entire land and completely demolish the Gandhi Bhavan,” he said.

“The secretary of the Gandhi Bhavan has taken a decision in this regard without consulting other members of the Gandhi Bhavan Committee,” Justice P K Shamsudeen alleged. He also said that some vested interests are  behind the move.  Activists of Gandhian organisations said  they would not allow the demolition and would hold an indefinite strike from February 28 if the authorities fail to back off.
