The office-bearers of the gas distributors’ association of the state said that they would be going ahead with the planned indefinite strike beginning Tuesday, in protest against the unilateral policies of the petroleum and LPG companies. Leaders of the All India LPG Distributors’ Association and Federation of LPG Distributors’ India, in a press meet here on Sunday, said that they will not deliver cooking gas in the state starting Tuesday as part of their nationwide stir.

The brunt of the agitation is most certainly going to be borne by households across the state. Hospitals and hotels though can breath easy as these emergency services will not be affected by the agitation, officials assured. The organisations alleged that the newly formulated policy guidelines of LPG companies are against the interest of the distributors and this has provoked the distributors to go on an indefinite strike. The new policy will lead to unwanted wrangles between gas agencies and the consumers, they said.

The distributors also requested the government to reconsider the decision to impose fines on agencies and demanded to place curbs on the uncontrolled allocation of new agencies. All India LPG Distributors’ Association Kerala president Babu Joseph, All India Indane Distributors’ Association president Babu Varghese attended the press meet.
