Maradu Residents Soon to Get Their Health Indices Recorded

Soon the residents of Maradu Municipality will have a Health Record System which registers their nutritional levels and other health-related  data.

The pilot project is being carried out with the help of Central Government and the Wellness Solutions at Maradu. On a trial basis, the team at Wellness Solutions has studied the lifestyle and health records of children and have  recommended the parents on the right nutritional choices to be provided for   their children.

The initiative has already covered 80,000 children in and around Kochi, mostly CBSE students as Health Records are mandatory for them.

As part of the Health Record System, the needs of the body are assessed scientifically using metabolic profiles of an individuals using the latest technology in order to find out the possibility of occurrence of a disease in the future.

“Teachers are more influential in shaping students’ lifestyles. We teach them how to advice lifestyle changes to students in the proper manner. Soon the initiative will be extended to Maradu Municipality where the same will be implemented for local people of all ages. The Health Record System will be of great help as it can be used as a tool for fast diagnosis. Based on this, a personalised nutritional advice can also be given,” said

Dr A Sreekumar, president, Indian Nutritional Medical Association and chairman, Wellness Solutions.

He added that this is for the first time that such an initiative is being carried out in the state. If found successful, the same will be initiated in other parts of Kerala too, he said.

“Earlier, it was not easy to educate the people about the importance of metabolic profiling. But now the scenario has changed. Be it rural or urban population, everyone wants to do the metabolic profile. More doctors are recommending it for their patients. Even youngsters are turning up in larger numbers.

This is more of a preventive technique than a curative one. Basically, it inculcates quality food habits to an individual,” experts point out.
