For the first time in Kerala, bilateral total knee replacement surgery was conducted at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences(AIMS) on a female patient from Oman, using the Zimmer Persona Knee ‘The Personalised Knee System’. Dr Jai Thilak, professor of orthopaedics, AIMS, said this was the third knee replacement surgery in South India using this advanced implants. The persona knee is the most comprehensive morphologic knee system available across the world, providing uncompromising fitness and intuitive alignment accuracy. Working with more than 50 of the world’s most-respected orthopaedic surgeons and utilising analytics from both genders and 1,500 different bone types from 26 different ethnicities, Zimmer was able to create the most anatomically-accurate implant.
The orthopaedics surgeons said the surgery have improved the lives of millions and that is one of the most successful orthopaedic device surgeries.
