Fishermen to Protest against Govt

The state committee of Kerala Swatantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation alleged on Wednesday that the state government is trying to scuttle the monsoon trawling ban. They also alleged  that the state government is revising the guidelines of coastal Regulation Zone(CRZ) norms which would harm the life of fisher folks.

The federation along with National fish workers forum will stage protests in the coming days against the alleged moves of the state government. They have also decided to conduct mass conventions at the district coastal headquarters across the state during the months of June and July.

The federation also pointed out that they could not accept the recommendations made by the expert committee appointed by the state government.

As per the recommendations, the trawling should be banned in a period of 30 days during monsoon season and the months of October and November.

Meanwhile, the federation sought for banning the trawl in a period of 90 days owing to the rich fish wealth during the months of June, July and August.
