Man Accused of Abusing Landlord

KOCHI: The Mattancherry police on Thursday registered a case against a man who allegedly abused and threatened a woman.

According to the police, the victim lodged a complaint saying that she was molested and verbally abused by one of her tenants. The complainant, Shamshad, 56, is associated with the Haji Usman Ayub Haji Abdul Rahman Trust, where she is known as ‘Mukthavalli’.  Hassan, 50 of Mattancherry, one of the many tenants of the Trust that has leased many apartments in the city, allegedly threatened to kill Shamshad and used abusive language against her. The police said that the accused will be arrested on Friday.

Man Arrested

A man was arrested on Thursday for stabbing his wife. The arrested is Satheeshan, 48 of Athani near Kakkanad.

According to the police,the incident occured at the couple’s residence around 1.45 pm. He stabbed her following a conflict between the two over financial matters.

The victim is Shakunthala,50. When she refused to give money,the accused took the knife and stabbed her in the stomach.

‘Medical Lapse’

Relatives of a woman alleged on Thursday that medical negligence resulted in  her death.  The deceased,Viji Subeesh,30 of Udayamperoor, underwent an operation for removing a cyst in her abdomen on Sunday at a private hospital at Tripunithura. Her family alleged that she had become weaker after the surgery and later admitted to a different hospital where she breathed her last.

Case Registered

The city police registered a case on Thursday against two members of the Congress party, for allegedly showering abuses on Deputy Mayor B Bhadra.

According to the police, the two went inside the Deputy Mayor’s office and used obscene words and threatened to put up posters about her.

Lorries  Seized

In a flash raid conducted by the Legal Metrology Department, officials took into custody  lorries which spotted 240-litre secret compartments. These compartments on the top valve portions of 12,000-litre lorries are used to conduct fraud.
