Afghan Currency Case: One More Held

The Shadow Police and the Ernakulam North police on Monday arrested a man who is allegedly having links with the gang that was arrested on Saturday on charges of trying to sell foreign currency illegally in the city.

KOCHI: The Shadow Police and the Ernakulam North police on Monday arrested a man who is allegedly having links with the gang that was arrested on Saturday on charges of trying to sell foreign currency illegally in the city.

The arrested has been identified as Vinosh, 30, of Ashoka road, Kaloor. According to the police, the arrested had promised members of the gang to provide them gold coins, diamonds and rice puller, all belonging to the Mughal era. The police officials also recovered several pictures of diamonds and rice pullers from his mobile phone.

Chain-snatching

The police on Monday registered a case of chain snatching after an unidentified person on a motorbike snatched the chain of a two-and-half year old girl at Vattathipadam road, near Palarivattom here.  The incident occurred when the victim, accompanied by her seven-year old sister, was returning home from the lottery shop owned by their parents. Palarivattom police registered a case based on a complaint by the kid’s grandfather, Chinnappan, 63, of Vattathipadam.

Woman Found Dead

A 70-year-old woman was found dead inside her house in Mattancherry on Monday. The deceased, Sarojini B Kammath, wife of the late Balachandra Kammath, Gujarati road, was living alone since her husband died 15 years ago.

“The body was found one day after the death occured. The body is kept in the mortuary of the General Hospital for post mortem,” the police said.

Man Held for

Murder Attempt

The Panangad police on Monday arrested one person on charges of attempting to murder his own mother at Nettoor near here. The arresed, Srijith of Muthedam Colony, allegedly attempted to murder his mother Thankamani after she intervened in a brawl between Srijith and his wife on Sunday morning. Srijith reportedly hacked Thankamani six times. Thankamani was rushed to the hospital. Srijith, who went underground after committing the crime, was arrested. He was remanded in custody.

Held for Assault

The Palluruthy police on Monday arrested one person on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy at Palluruthy. The arrested, Reneef of Palluruthy, was living in the neighborhood of the victim.

According to the police, the accused sexually assaulted the boy on several occassion. Reneef allegedly took the boy to his residence and showed hom some pronographic videos.

One More Illegal Moneylender Held

Aluva: The Aluva police on Monday arrested one person during a raid conducted as part of ‘Operation Kubera’, launched recently to crackdown on illegal moneylenders. The police also registered a case against a woman on charges of engaging in illegal money-lending.

The arrested is identified as Radhakrishnan, son of Gangadharan, Punnely House, Nochima, Aluva East Village. The police have seized blank cheques, vehicle sale agreements, RC books, and a UAE driving licence from him.
