Acid Spill Kills Scores of Fish

KOCHI: Hundreds of dead fish were found floating in the Chitrapuzha near here on Monday, apparently poisoned by an acid spill from the FACT.

According to FACT officials, the acid leak, which reportedly occurred on Monday, was rectified, and the matter was brought to the notice of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB).

Later, the PCB officials collected water samples from the river for measuring the volume of the acid.

Meanwhile, local residents staged a protest against the FACT authorities for discharging hazardous chemicals into the river.

They alleged that the incident resulted in a significant destruction of the fish wealth in the river.
