Kottakkanal Road to get Facelift

KOCHI: One more road is getting ready for Kochiites who have been languishing on jam-packed city roads. The Greater Cochin Development Authority and Hibi Eden MLA have jointly taken the initiative to remove obstacles on Kottakkanal Road, an easy short-cut that connects Kaloor to Pullepady railway overbridge.

Though the road has been existing for 25 years, a house and coconut trees at Kottakanal area were creating hindrances to traffic over a stretch of 300 metres. Though the plot had been acquired, the road was not constructed along the stretch. Once the road is constructed, vehicular movement from near PVS hospital to Pullepady ROB will be possible on a single stretch.

With traffic congestion worsening after commencement of construction of metro rail, residents in the area had approached GCDA authorities with a request to clear obstacles on the road. The construction work is expected to be completed by October 30.

GCDA chairman N Venugopal has given instructions to Works Department to complete the work at the earliest.

Hibi Eden MLA and GCDA chairman N Venugopal visited the work site on Wednesday to review the progress in the proceedings.
