KOCHI: World Heart Day was observed at the Lourde Hospital. The function was inaugurated by Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob in Kochi on Monday. He said the UDF government has gone a long way in rendering services to the poor.
“Karunya benevolent scheme is one such and a major share of the Chief Minster’s relief fund is spent on poor patients,” he said. Anoop Jacob said the cardiac patients should show a fighting spirit.
“When my father late T M Jacob was diagnosed with pulmonary hyper tension, the doctors predicted a life span of four years for him. But he went on to live for 14 years due to sheer will power and was active in politics throughout. Hence, a diseases should not prevent one from living life to the lees,” he said. He released the book’Hridroga chikitsa - Puthiya kandethalukaliloode’ by senior cardiologist of the hospital, Dr George Thayyil by handing over a copy to Veena George, chief news editor, India Vision channel.
Dr George Thayyil, Fr Sabu Nedunilathu, director, Lourdes Hospital, Dr Shylesh Kumar Kunnanattil, cardio thoracic surgeon and Dr K A Koshy, cardiac anaesthesiologist, Dr Thankachan V Attacheril, senior cardiologist also spoke.
In connection with World Heart Day, the hospital organised free checkup camps for autorickshaw drivers. More than 500 drivers participated.
