KOCHI:Suddenly, there’s a whiff of change in the IT campuses after tech major Infosys relaxed the formal dress code for its employees from this month. The sartorial shift has been welcomed not only by Infoscions, but also techies in other leading IT firms.
Infosys’ decision was announced by CEO Vishal Sikka, who himself wears a black T-shirt combined with a jacket - a sharp contrast from the previous leadership from N R Narayanamurthy to Nandan Nilekani, Kris Gopalakrishnan to S D Shibulal.
The decision is expected to help the company connect better with employees, besides arresting attrition. In a mail to employees, Infosys said it believed that each of its employees are empowered to make the right decision regarding dress code. This move has significance considering that a majority of Infosys employees are in their 20s and fresh out of college.
Today’s corporate firms in India seem to be reinventing themselves in all aspects to keep up with the current generation and the young employees so far have responded to this positively. With Infosys relaxing the dress code, techies are expecting a similar move by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Wipro, where employees are allowed to wear casuals only on Fridays. Cognizant, another big IT firm, however, allows casuals on all working days.
