Burial Yard: Give Power to Civic Bodies, Government Told

KOCHI: The State Minority Commission said here on Monday that the government should hand over the power to local self bodies while taking the final decision on setting up of burial yard.

State Minority Commission member V V Joshi said this while hearing a petition to set up a burial yard at Karimalloor, in a sitting held at Ernakulam Collectorate here on Monday. “Even after the District Collector and Additional District Magistrate giving green signal to set up the grave yard, the police is coming heavily against it. At Karimalloor people are also against the decision to set up a burial yard in 17.75 acres of land, but without adequate space where will they bury dead bodies?,” asked V V Joshi.

As many as 19 cases came up for hearing. Cases including repayment of education loan, wealth dispute and recruitment also came up for hearing.
