Action Sought against VC

KOCHI: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to take disciplinary action against the Kerala Veterinary  University Vice-chancellor for misusing his powers.  The Opposition leader sent a letter to the CM seeking action against the VC in the wake of the vice-chancellor’s move to ban two service organisations in the university.

Achuthandnan said in the letter that the VC has made a lot of controversial moves in the past as well by starting self-finance courses in the varsity without permission and introducing steep hike in fees of different veterinary programmes, which were struck down by the government when the issues were brought to the attention of Cabinet.

Besides, corruption charges were levelled against him in the past in connection with the construction works in the varsity and purchase of software to the university. The Government- appointed Dr K M Abraham Commission has observed that the vice chancellor had  misused his office and in this backdrop, the state government should take action against him urgently, he said in the letter.
