Fr Antony Kariyil Second Bishop of Mandya

KOCHI:Fr Antony Kariyil CMI  has been elected the second bishop of the  Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Mandya in Karnataka. He succeeds first bishop of Mandya Mar George Njaralakatt  who was transferred as the Archbishop of Thalassery last year. 

The new appointment came to Fr Kariyil while serving as the director of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology.

 The announcement of this election was made at the Vatican, Syro-Malabar Church headquarters Mount St Thomas,  Kakkanad and at the Cathedral Church, Mandya simultaneously on Wednesday.

 Cardinal George Alencherry made the announcement at the church headquarters and presented the bishop-elect with the insignia of Episcopacy.  Archbishop George Njaralakkatt felicitated the bishop-elect.  All Bishops attending the Syro-Malabar synod were present on the occasion.

 The date of Episcopal ordination and installation of the new Bishop will be decided later.
