Patient Discharged after Double Transplant

KOCHI:Manu, who had undergone the successful double hand transplant which is the first in India, got discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after 52 days. He has regained considerable movement and is able to do most of his day to day activities with his transplanted hands and he celebrated it by  cutting a cake in the presence of the transplant team. However, he will have to continue intensive physiotherapy. He thanked the whole team and the team leader Dr Subrahmanya Iyer and the Amrita hospital management. “Words cannot describe his gratitude to Amma for giving him a new lease of life,” he said. The whole expenses of the procedure and the subsequent physiotherapy are being met by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
