KOCHI: In a gruesome incident, a 30-year-old woman, hailing from Assam, and her three-and-a-half month old baby, were hacked to death and their body dumped in an open place near Perumbavoor on Thursday night.
The police suspect marital discord behind the murder as the husband of the woman is absconding after the incident.
The Perumbavoor police identified the absconding man as Hashim Hussein of Assam. The murder is suspected to have taken place around midnight. Soon after the murder, the bodies were dumped in an open field near the place. Later, local residents who spotted the bodies in the morning informed the police.
Following preliminary police probe, the bodies were sent to the Government Hospital in Perumbavoor for autopsy.
The Perumbavoor police have registered a case of murder and an investigation is under way to track down the killer.
