Conductor Rail for Metro Arrives at Port

KOCHI: The conductor rail used for power supply (third rail traction) for Kochi Metro rail project reached the Cochin Port on Wednesday. A total of 18,000 metres of conductor rail was unloaded at the Port for Kochi Metro Rail.  

It was imported from Germany by the company Railtek. The third rail system at 750 V DC will be mainly used for transferring power to the rolling stock of the Kochi Metro Rail.

The third rail system shall be of the bottom contact with aluminium or steel composite type surface for current collection.  Meanwhile, the laying of rail tracks over the pillars of Metro rail is expected to begin by first week of June. Already, 3,200 tonnes of rails for the Kochi Metro has already been imported last week. Another 3,000 tonnes are expected to arrive soon.
