KOCHI: With tenure of the Kochi Corporation Mayor coming to an end on Saturday, District Collector M G Rajamanickam assumed charge as the acting Mayor. At a function held at the Kochi Corporation office here on Saturday, outgoing Mayor Tony Chammany welcomed the District Collector to office by hading over white roses.
The Collector will hold the post of Mayor until the new Mayor takes charge on November 12. The new council formed by the State Government to replace the outgoing council also took office.
Besides the District Collector, Corporation Secretary V R Raju and Engineer Sasikumar has also been included in the council. Though the new council does not have the power to take policy decisions, it can take decisions on the the ongoing projects.
