Railway to Issue ID Cards for Differently-abled

KOCHI: The Railways comes to the help of the differently-abled commuters. In order to reduce the hassles of booking a ticket for the differently-abled persons, the Railways’ Thiruvananthapuram Division has decided to conduct a three-day drive from Wednesday in which applications for issuance of travel concession ID card will be received. According to Railways this ID card is different from that of the previous ones since it will help a differently-abled commuter to book tickets online.

“We have launched this drive as per the directive of the Southern Railway General Manager. The drive is being organised at Nagercoil, Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam Junction, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam Junction and Thrissur railway stations. Those who want to avail this opportunity will have to present themselves at these stations between 10 am to 5 pm,” said a senior railway official with the Thiruvananthapuram Division.

According to the official, the card will prove to be of tremendous help to the differently-abled since it will negate the need to fill any forms at the counters in order to avail ticket concessions. They can even book the tickets at concession rate via online since the ID card comes with a unique identification number. It is also said that once the system comes into being, the tiresome procedure of filling forms and producing relevant documents at the ticket reservation counter for concession rates will become history.
