KOCHI: The intrusion of marketing agencies  has become an impediment to freedom of media, Sasikumar, director of Asian College of Journalism has said.

Speaking at a seminar at Media Academy here the other day, Sasikumar said that freedom of media is vital for bringing news to the public impartially. But the intrusion of marketing agencies is taking a toll on freedom of the media. The trend has grown into disturbing heights destroying the credibility of the media in general, an official press release quoted him as saying.

In this period, the writers are facing more trouble than reporting a war. The writers are having a real tough time, said writer Sethu referring to the plight of Kalburgi and the recent threats to Girish Karnad. Freedom of media is also facing similar challenges, the writer added.
