Smuggler Sent to CBI Custody

KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday sent the key accused in the Nedumbassery gold smuggling case to CBI custody for three days. Following a petition filed by the CBI, Judge K M Balachandran decided to sent Kallingal Ashraf, a native of Peringathur in Kannur, to CBI custody. The court ordered that the accused should be present at the court before 4 pm on Saturday.

According to CBI officials the accused has to be interrogated and taken to Kozhikode and Kannur as part of evidence collection.

The interrogation would reveal the operations of the gold smuggling racket. Ashraf is allegedly the kingpin of racket and T K Faiz worked for him.

Ashraf is suspected to be the person who purchases gold from Dubai and sent it to jewellers in the state through illegal channels.
