KOCHI: An open house showcasing the initiatives undertaken by the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), in connection with the World Fisheries Day, was organised here on Saturday.
At the expo, students of the School of Aquaculture and Biotechnology exhibited various models of hatcheries for fish-breeding and larval rearing; instruments used in aquaculture; models of cages for farming; traditional fishing tools/gears and fish feeds.
The students explained functioning of the hatcheries and disease surveillance methods, besides clarifying visitors’ doubts on setting up of aquarium.
The different phases of mussel culture were also showcased at the stall. Live farming ponds, hatcheries and aquariums were also set up at the stall.
Students of the School of Aquatic Food Products and Technology showcased various machines used for fish processing and value addition.
