KOCHI: K J Yesudas will perform a carnatic concert in Kochi on November 29 from 6 pm onwards at Gokulam Convention Centre, Kaloor. The concert titled ‘Raagasudha’ is being organised to support the activities of Cancure Foundation - an NGO working for poor cancer patients and also creating awareness about the need for early detection of the disease. It is after a long gap that Yesudas will be performing a full session carnatic concert in the city. N Hari (AIR, Kozhikode) will play the mridungam, Sampath (AIR, Trivandrum) will be on the violin and Trippunithura Radhakrishnan on ghatam will accompany the maestro.

The logo release of the event was done by Mayor Soumini Jain. President of Cancure Foundation Vinu Varghese, secretary R Madhav Chandran, treasurer Mathew Joseph and event chairman Vivek Krishna Govind were present on the occasion. Cancure Foundation, which was formed eight years ago, has so far provided financial and medical support to over 100 cancer patients. Philanthropic minded professionals from various walks of life have been the ones who had been sustaining this foundation so far. After coming to know about the activities of the foundation, K J Yesudas offered to support the organisation by performing for them. This is the first public launch of Cancure and is aimed at raising funds for many of its service projects.

With Dr Junaid Rahman and noted oncologist Dr Mohan Nair as medical advisors, Cancure is also entering into agreement with Ernakulam General Hospital to support weekly cancer detection camps in Ernakulam. A project to set up a full-fledged ‘Early Cancer Detection Centre’ complete with state-of-the-art digital mammogram and ultrasound machines in association with General Hospital, IMA and Rotary International will be announced during the event. Entry to the concert is strictly by invitation. Students of music, who are interested to attend the concert may contact, 7025003333 and present their ID cards to obtain student passes to the event.
