KOCHI: The State Election Commission has directed candidates of the local body elections held recently to file statements related to income and expense for election campaign and related activities, before December 7.
Those who do not file the statement, file false accounts and those found to have exceeded the limit will be disqualified from contesting polls over the next five years. The limit in grama panchayat is Rs 10,000, in block panchayat and municipality, Rs 30,000 and in Corporation, Rs 60,000.
Those who contested in grama panchayats should submit the statement to the block panchayat secretary, those in block panchayats to the district panchayat secretary and those in district panchayats, municipalities and Corporations to the district collector.
The statement should include expenses from the date of announcement of candidature to the result declaration day, spent by the candidate and by any one on his or her behalf. The statement should be supported with self-attested copies of receipts or vouchers and bills. The candidate should produce the original on demand.
The Commission had rejected nomination of 11,000 candidates who had not filed statements of expense in the previous election.
