KOCHI: The conference on ‘Comprehensive Foetal Care’ in India-Fetocon 2015- was held at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre.
Several international experts in the field of fetal care deliberated advancements in this area in medical care- intervention in saving baby with birth defects out of themother’s womb.The conference was inaugurated by Hibi Eden, MLA.
Amrita Centre of Excellence in Foetal Care is the first of its kind in Asia for treating complex and rare foetal conditions.
Open fetal surgery entails taking a baby with birth defects out of the mother’s womb, performing corrective surgery and placing the fosetus back inside the womb.
Dr Foong Yen Lim, surgical director, Fetal Care Centre Cincinnati Children’s Hospital USA; Dr S Suresh, director, Mediscan Chennai; Dr Uma Ram, director, Seethapathy Clinic and EVK Medical Centre, Chennai; Mohan Abraham, head of Pediatric and Fetal
Surgery; and Dr Vivek Krishnan, head of Department of Perinatology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre led the discussions.
